A Knitwear Designers introduction to the wonderful world of Tech Editing

Tech Editing for knitting patterns can seem daunting if you’ve never been through the process before. There are so many things you may be thinking about

What is Tech Editing?

What do I need to send to an editor?

How much will it cost?

How will I work with the editor?

How do I know who the right editor for me is?

It can be overwhelming, believe me I have been there myself as a Knitwear Designer.

In this series of blog posts I am going to cover some of these questions in detail to provide some reassurance that Tech Editing is a simple and collaborative process and can have great benefits for Knitwear Designers, other than clear and accurate patterns.

Tech Editors are often very experienced crafts people with decades of knowledge about knitwear design, construction, how fabric behaves, fibre characteristics among many other things.

They are willing to share this knowledge with designers through the editing process, it isn’t just about numbers as they want to work as a team to ensure your patterns are the best they possibly can be.

It is a two way process too, editors also learn things from designers, which helps them grow also!

In the next post I am going to start at the beginning and discuss What is Tech Editing? In the meantime, let me know what questions you have and would like me to answer below!
